Remember Staying Alive with John Travolta?

Modern day John Travolta movies simply cannot compare to the classics he made in his younger days. While his newer works seem to be as far away in character as possible from the disco classics and culturally iconic movies of his yesteryears, it’s the older films that simply can’t be forgotten. Even today new fans to these great movies appear every day. They love watching Carrie, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Staying Alive, among many other cinematic greats starring Travolta.

Revisiting Saturday Night Fever

Saturday Night Fever is the prequel to Staying Alive and it’s the movie that set the scene. Saturday Night Fever was a huge success and continues to be so. It’s a must-see for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
Tony Manero, Travolta’s character, is 19-year old Italian American who lives at home and manages to hold a dead-end job. Although his life is pretty monotonous, Manero is a dance floor king every Saturday night at a local disco club called 2001 Odyssey and that’s the place where all the drama begins.
The ending of Saturday Night Fever, with Manero deciding to change his life marks the beginning of Staying Alive, which opens six years later after the end scene of Saturday Night Fever. Manero has kept to his decision to change, but it proves not to be so easy. He’s set on a dancing career; a pursuit that starts a whole new set of troubles.

Staying Alive: The Song of an Era

Staying Alive named after the Bee Gees song, ‘Stayin’ Alive’, which served as the theme song of Saturday Night Fever and makes appearances in Staying Alive. There are many more people who recognize this song as the theme song of the 70s than that have actually seen the John Travolta movie, widely thanks to it being so frequently featured in commercials. In 2004, it was placed at number 189 of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

The disco days may be long gone, but you can still show your appreciation for this great era simply by wearing your very own Tony Manero Staying Alive leather jacket.
